Klein's Camp

Serengeti National Park
Majestically situated on the edge of the Kuka Hills in a 24,700 wildlife concession, Klein’s Camp consists of just ten intimate cottages made of local stone and makuti thatch, with rich wooden floors and classic interiors. Each cottage has an en-suite bathroom and private veranda with breath-taking views over the surrounding hills and the valley below. A diversity of resident wildlife, including huge elephant herds, can be viewed from everywhere in camp – even the kitchen boasts unforgettable views. The camp has a large, beautifully furnished bar and sitting area, a sparkling swimming pool tucked into the hillside and a safari shop featuring locally-made Maasai crafts. Fresh vegetables picked from the camp’s shamba, or organic African garden, are used to create wholesome dishes. Dinners are served in the main dining area, which is graced by a large open fireplace. Night drives and bush walks in the private concession allow you to explore the nocturnal world of the predators or to get an intimate glimpse into the details of the African bush. Overlooking the wooded hillside, rolling grasslands, lush marshes and forested river banks of the Serengeti and with Kenya’s renowned Masai Mara…..

directly to the north, Klein’s Camp is one of the most strategically positioned wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Set on the edge of the Kuka Hills, it commands breath-taking views of the valley below, through which huge herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate each year. While the Great Migration is an annual highlight, you can experience excellent year-round lion, leopard and cheetah sightings. Huge herds of buffalo and breeding herds of elephant are all resident and birdwatching in the seasonal marshlands is exceptionally rewarding. Several species of raptor breed on the cliffs above Klein’s Camp and numerous birds of prey, including vultures and eagles, are frequently spotted soaring on the updrafts.

With unbroken views over a gorgeous game-filled valley and the hills beyond, which play host to one of the greatest wildlife migrations on earth, Klein’s Camp embodies the very soul of the Serengeti. As dawn breaks over the Serengeti a gentle tap on your door will wake you to the delights of a new day. Your guide will discuss what you hope to see that day over fragrant tea or coffee and morning biscuits or rusks. If the Great Migration is passing through the area, your guide will attempt to catch up with the massed herds. After a break for a hot drink and a snack you then return to the camp for a delicious breakfast, with platters of fruit and cheese followed by a selection of hot breakfast dishes. Choose from eggs, oats, waffles or a number of other options. If you prefer, you can take a packed breakfast and prolong your morning game drive.

You can walk off breakfast on a bush walk near the camp in the company of a guide getting back in time to enjoy a selection of lunch platters. Then perhaps cool off with a refreshing dip in the camps pool or indulge in a siesta. After late afternoon tea, you set off again in search of the wildlife. The herds head out to drink before settling down for the night while predators are warming up for the night's hunting. After stopping at a scenic spot for sundowners as the sun sinks beneath the endless plains, you can continue with a night drive (being a wildlife concession this is the only place in the Serengeti where night drives can be arranged) before returning to camp for a mouthwatering dinner served on china and silver in the open dining area.
